NEWARK, Ohio (WTVN) -- A man has been arrested after leading police on a chase early Monday morning in Newark.
Anthony Rardain, 27, took off after police tried to stop him for speeding shortly after 1:30 p.m. The chase started near North 30th Street and lasted about five minutes. It ended near his home.
"The reason he didn't want to stop was because he wanted to make sure his mom's car got back to her house. He didn't want her to be without a car," said Newark Police Sgt. Paul Davis.
In addition to the fleeing and eluding and traffic violation charges, Rardain was driving on a suspended license from a previous OVI charge.
"He did admit that he was heading to a bar," Davis said.
Officers found a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle. They're asking prosecutors to look at filing charges for that as well.
