COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Two corrections officers have been placed on paid administrative leave, in relation to the investigation to Ariel Castro's suicide while at the state prison facility in Orient.
The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction confirmed that officers Caleb Ackley and Ryan Murphy are on paid leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.
Castro was found hanging in his cell last Tuesday, with officials saying it was a suicide. Castro was in protective custody, but not on suicide watch.
He was sentenced to life in prison, plus 1000 years, for holding Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight against their will in his Cleveland home for about a decade.
The home, and surrounding buildings, were demolished over the summer.
Corrections officials indicate the two officers on leave had no prior disciplinary action taken against them.
