Seven Overdoses Reported at Fayette Co. Jail

Washington Court House, Ohio (WTVN)--The Fayette County Sheriff's Office responded to a series of overdoses at the jail early Monday morning.

Officers say just after midnight, Jail staff called a squad to the facility after one inmate was found on the floor.

Staff gave her the heroin antidote Naloxone, which was effective.

An additional six women in the same housing unit showed signs of overdoses during the next hour. No names have been released.

The inmates likely snorted the drug. Staff members searched the facility using a K-9, but no drugs or paraphernalia were found.

Detectives were questioning inmates, and they believed the drug was smuggled into the facility in a body cavity. The sheriff's office has been approved to add a full body scanner for incoming inmates, but a building addition needs to be completed before it can be utilized.
