Corrosion may have caused accident on fair ride

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN) -- Corrosion may be behind last week's ride malfunction at the Ohio State Fair.

A European amusement industry group says the Fire Ball ride's metal structure was likely weakened by water during years of transportation and storage.

Ride inspectors are being urged to check the metal thickness on similar rides to prevent another deadly malfunction.

An 18-year old from central Ohio was killed in the accident. Four others who were hurt remain in the hospital in critical or serious condition.

Among the injured is 18-year old Jennifer Lambert.  Her family says she remains in a coma but is showing some signs of awareness.
