COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN) -- Columbus City Schools Superintendent Dr. Dan Good is ready to call it a career.

Dr. Good has announced his retirement, effective in December.

He has been superintendent since July, 2013., when he replaced Dr. Gene Harris.

In his remarks regarding the school district, Dr. Good mentioned the data-rigging scandal involving several school principals, saying new safeguards have been put in place to prevent a similar incident from happening again, and there is more transparency when it comes to school attendance data.

Dr. Good was hired in Columbus just days after retiring as Superintendent of the Westerville City School district.

As for his plans upon retirement, Dr. Good says he will be spending time with his family, including visiting relatives in Alaska that he hasn't seen in years, and take his mother on a cruise for her birthday.

There is no word yet on who might replace Good. The President of the Board of Education says the search process will begin immediately, but it does not have a timeline.
