Ohio State, Cincinnati to Renew Men's Basketball Rivalry

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--The Ohio State Department of Athletics announced a series for the Men's Basketball team that renews a century-old in-state rivalry.

Ohio State will play the University of Cincinnati in a home-and-home series beginning in the 2018-19 season. The two teams will open that season by playing the first game at the newly-renovated Fifth Third Arena, on the University of Cincinnati campus.

The Buckeyes will host the Bearcats at Value City Arena to open the 2019-2020 season.

The programs have only met 10 times, with Ohio State leading the series 6-4, but they have not met in the regular season since 1921.

Three of their last four meetings have been in the NCAA Tournament. Cincinnati beat Ohio State in both the 1961 and 1962 NCAA Championship games. Ohio State beat Cincinnati in the Sweet-16 of the 2012 NCAA Tournament.
