COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--The Ohio State University has opened an investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against a former athletic trainer.
The university says the allegations have come from the conduct of Dr. Richard Strauss, who was a trainer for the Wrestling team from at least the mid-1970's to the late-1990's. The university is still working to determine Dr. Strauss's exact dates of employment.
Dr. Strauss was also known to work as a trainer for the university's Swim and Dive team.
The university has contacted law enforcement, and the Ohio Attorney General has committed the resources of the State Bureau of Criminal Investigation to look into the allegations.
The university adds that an outside, independent investigator has also been retained, with Bricker & Eckler LLP tasked with that part of the investigation.
The school is asking for any former student-athletes, coaches, or others who may have knowledge of misconduct to come forward.
Dr. Strauss died in 2005.
The University says it will report the outcome of the investigation publicly upon its completion.
