Highway Patrol reports eight holiday traffic deaths

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN) -- Fewer lives were lost on Ohio roads over the Fourth of July holiday compared to a year ago, but the holiday ran for five days last year.

This year, the holiday period started on July 3rd and ended on July 4th.

During that period, eight people died across the state.

The 2017 July 4th holiday claimed 21 lives.

Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers kept busy over the holiday, arresting nearly 300 people for impaired driving and another 276 on drug-related charges.
