POWELL, Ohio (24-7 News)--Officials with the Columbus Zoo are saying a baby giraffe born at the Heart of Africa exhibit last month has passed away.
According to reports, the female calf named Ubumwe who was born at the zoo on October 30th died Saturday morning of a yet to be determined cause.
Officials say her health begin to deteriorate on Friday afternoon and she was given emergency care including a CT scan done by equine veterinary specialists at Ohio State.
Zoo care professionals now say an animal autopsy will be performed along with a pathology report which should have results back within a few weeks.
