Buckeyes to play in Rose Bowl New Year's Day

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Even with another Big Ten Championship, a berth in the Rose Bowl for the Ohio State Buckeyes may feel like a consolation prize to some fans.

The Buckeyes are heading to Pasadena, California to take on the Washington Huskies in the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day 2019, following the 45-24 win over Northwestern in the Big Ten Championship Game Saturday.

Despite the win, and Georgia getting their 2nd loss of the season in the SEC Championship Game, the Buckeyes remained number-6 in the final College Football Playoff poll, with the top-4 making the playoff.

Number-1 Alabama will take on 4th-ranked Oklahoma in one semifinal, with number-2 Clemson taking on 3rd-ranked Notre Dame in the other semifinal.

The Sooners beat Texas in the Big-12 Championship Game Saturday to earn their spot in the playoff Over Ohio State.

2-loss Georgia was number-5 in the CFP poll, with the Buckeyes 12-1 on the season.

Michigan, who lost to Ohio State by 23 points, was number-7.

As for the Rose Bowl, Head Coach Urban Meyer is excited for the team to play there, with Meyer never having coached in "the granddaddy of them all."
