Arena Football League Returning to Columbus

COLUMBUS, Ohio (24-7 News)--The Arena Football League is returning to Columbus.

A new expansion team will play at Nationwide Arena in the upcoming season.

The league made the announcement Thursday, saying the new Columbus franchise will play in the 12 game 2019 season which begins in April.

This will be the third time an Arena Football team has called Columbus home after the Thunderbolts spent one season here in 1991 and the Destroyers played from 2004 to 2008 and went to Arena Bowl 21.

The AFL has not yet announced what the team will be called or its coaching staff but expects to release that information in the next few weeks.
