COLUMBUS, Ohio (24-7 News)--An Ohio lawmaker is introducing a bill which would increase the penalties for drivers who illegally pass stopped school buses.
Representative Niraj Antani said House Bill 89 would raise the fine for passing a school bus with its stop sign extended to one-thousand dollars and also carry a two-year suspension of driving privileges.
Antani's bill would double the punishment the current law carries both on the fine and the suspension.
If approved by the legislature, the bill would also require the Bureau of Motor Vehicles to display graphics instructing drivers on school bus safety at all deputy registrar locations.
