COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--The city of Columbus is contributing $1.6-million to convert two blighted hotel properties into affordable housing.
Columbus City Council announced the money will go to converting the former Knights Inn and Motel 6, on West Broad Street, into the "Carol Stewart Village," to be named after a long-time Franklinton advocate, who died in 2012.
The project will result in 80 efficiency apartments, with rent at or below fair market value, to be utilized by adults aged 18-24 that "age out" of the foster care system.
The $4.5-million project will also include resources and programs for resident to get back on their feet, like employment opportunities, transportation, healthcare resources, and counseling services.
Residents are expected to move in to the complex by the end of the year.
