Committee Formed to Help Search for New Columbus Police Chief

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther has formed a committee made up of community leaders, clergy, and others to help in the search for the city's new Chief of Police.

In an announcement Monday, Ginther says he is looking for a "change agent" to lead the department, someone who will increase diversity on the force and work with the community when it comes to law enforcement.

Kim Jacobs retired from the role in February, and Thomas Quinlan is serving as Acting Chief in the interim.

The department has been marred by the recent abolishment of the Vice unit, and the arrest of former Vice officer Andrew Mitchell, who is now charged with murder in the death of Donna Castleberry in July of 2018.

Ginther indicated he is looking both internally and nationwide for candidates to fill the role of Chief.
