Tickets Purchased before July 1st Exempt From Columbus Ticket Tax

COLUMBUS, Ohio (24-7 News)--The city of Columbus says those of you who purchase seats for the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Broadway Across America series, and other entertainment before July 1st will not have to pay the new ticket tax.

Officials are offering a one-time grace period for the fee which adds five-percent to the cost of tickets.

The exemption will apply to any ticket bought before July 1st, even if the payment plan extends beyond that date.

City Council Chief of Staff Mike Brown said it would be unfair to collect the tax before the policy is in place, but anti-tax advocates claim the grace period punishes those who can't afford to buy season ticket packages.

There is also an effort to undo the ticket tax, with supporters of that initiative looking to place it before voters in Columbus this November.
