Bicyclist Training for Pelatonia Killed in Delaware County Crash

DELAWARE, Ohio (WTVN)--A bicyclist that was training for the upcoming Pelatonia event was struck and killed by a vehicle in Delaware County Tuesday morning.

The Delaware post of the State Highway Patrol says 39-year-old Michael Tighe of Westerville was riding west in the berm along State Route 36, near Old State Road, around 6:30AM, when a car went onto the berm and struck him.

Tighe was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver stopped and cooperated with the investigation.

Tighe was a cancer survivor, oncology nurse, husband and father, and was training to ride with his Pelatonia team for the event in August.

He was wearing a helmet. Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be factors.
