VIDEO: Columbus Police Release Own Footage of Officer Punching Man

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--The Columbus Police Department has released its own version of video from a scene where an officer punches a bystander.

The footage from bystander video was posted online, and viewed over 27-thousand times. CPD put together their footage from three body cams and two cruiser cams, and is redacted.

The video shows Officer AJ Johnson punching Jonathan Robinson, as CPD was investigating a report of shots fired in the area of Heyl Avenue on Friday, June 7th.

Robinson was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and interfering with official business.

Robinson tells ABC-6 he was worried about his wife's safety at the scene.

Police Chief Thomas Quinlan says a preliminary investigation shows police were protecting bystanders.

The incident in question occurs at about the 23:00 mark.
