Death at Franklin County Jail Under Investigation

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--The Franklin County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a detainee at the county jail from over the weekend.

Deputies say 19-year-old Brandon Johnson was booked into the jail on South Front Street late Friday night, in a charge of domestic violence, for assaulting his ex-girlfriend and causing physical injuries.

Saturday morning, Johnson suffered what appeared to be a cardiac arrest episode. Deputies and medical staff responded and performed CPR. Johnson was then taken to Grant Medical Center, but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The Franklin County Coroner conducted an autopsy on Sunday. The cause of death was not immediately determined, and is now pending the results of the toxicology report.

Detectives believe that Johnson consumed illegal narcotics before his arrest, which may have played a role in his death.

The investigation continues.
