Man Charged With Murders of Wife, Children from 2008 House Fire

LONDON, Ohio (WTVN)--A special grand jury in Madison County has returned an 11-count indictment for aggravated murder and arson for Peter Romans, whose family died in a house fire in 2008.

Romans was taken into custody Monday when that indictment was unsealed. The fire from April of 2008 killed his wife Billi, 12-year-old son Caleb, and 16-year-old daughter Ami.

The indictment includes four counts of aggravated murder, three of murder, and four of aggravated arson.

Romans had argued for years that a recalled part on his SUV was the cause of the fire, that spread to the home from a carport. Investigators say the fire did not originate from that part, and they also found an accelerant in the vehicle.

The fire was ruled an arson in 2009, and the three victims' deaths were ruled a homicide in 2011.

Romans could face a judge for arraignment as early as Friday.
