Classes Canceled Tuesday for Columbus City Schools Due to Heat

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Classes are canceled on Tuesday for the Columbus City School district.

In a message released late Monday, Superintendent Dr. Talisa Dixon said many of the buildings are not equipped to handle the excessive heat and humidity, forecast for today.

She said, “The greatest challenge is not just the hot temperatures during the day, but how hot and humid it stays into the evening. Our schools simply cannot cool off at night. We must put the safety of our students and staff first.”

All after-school activities, including athletics, were also canceled for Tuesday.

School administrators and custodial teams are still required to report for work. Non-school based employees, bus drivers and bus aides will also be required to report as scheduled.
