Field Hospital at Columbus Convention Center Complete

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--A makeshift field hospital has been set up at the greater Columbus Convention Center, to treat patients for coronavirus, should the need arise.

Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther appeared via video-conference at Governor Mike DeWine's press briefing Tuesday to make the announcement.

He says the four major healthcare systems in central Ohio collaborated to prepare the facility, which Ginther hopes will never have to be used.

The GCCC will take in patients if central Ohio's hospitals become overwhelmed with coronavirus patients, but right now, area hospitals are at a "level 1" when it comes to the pandemic.

The facility will be used if the situation rises to a "level 3".
