Ohio Schools to Remain Closed For the Rest of The Academic Year

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Ohio Governor Mike DeWine on Monday confirmed what many expected would happen. All Ohio K-12 school buildings will be closed for the remainder of the academic year, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

DeWine says he talked to superintendents across the state before making the decision, with the original closure near the end of the school year playing a role in the decision to close.

DeWine originally ordered all schools to close for three weeks, back in March, but that was extended to May 1st. The decision to close for the rest of the school year means students will be learning remotely.

DeWine was also worried about students being carriers of coronavirus, and the traffic between school and home would make it more conducive for them to spread the disease.

On Monday, Ohio reported just over 12,000 cases of coronavirus, with nearly 500 deaths.
