COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--The Ohio House of Representatives voted Wednesday on an amendment to reign in the power of Ohio Department of Health Director, Dr. Amy Acton.
Representatives approved the measure that would limits new stay-at-home orders, issued during the coronavirus pandemic, to 14 days, and any extension of the order would require approval from a legislative panel, made up of members of both the Ohio House and Senate.
The measure was approved as an amendment to Senate Bill 1.
During debate on the issue, many House Republicans did not wear a mask, while most House Democrats wore a mask while in the house chamber.
The vote was 58-37, with only two Republicans opposing the measure.
Governor Mike DeWine issued a statement Wednesday condemning the vote, and he has indicated he would veto the measure, if it does pass the Ohio Senate.
