COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Ohio Governor Mike DeWine revealed several proposals on how to reform police procedures and tactics, in the wake of the recent killings of black man who have had run-ins with police.
DeWine is calling for legislation that would ban the use of choke holds by police officers, with the only exception being if someone's life is in danger. He also wants officers to receive more training on how to deescalate situations.
The governor also wants better tracking of police officers who are fired from their positions for misconduct or racial profiling, who can then be hired in a different department.
He's also calling for the creation of a database for use of force by officers.
Officers should also be required to pass a psychological evaluation to prove fitness of duty.
