CHICAGO, Illinois (WTVN)--After days of silence in the face of petitions and rallies for the Big Ten Conference to reinstate fall sports this year, Conference Commissioner Kevin Warren says the decision to postpone the events until at least the spring will not be revisited.
Warren released a letter on Wednesday, indicating that the vote from the conference's Council of Presidents and Chancellors was based on sound guidance from medical experts. The ongoing coronavirus pandemic prompted the decision from the conference.
The decision prompted Ohio State Quarterback Justin Fields to start a petition, asking the conference to reinstate fall sports. That petition has gathered over a quarter-million signatures this week.
Also this week, Buckeye Cornerback Shawn Wade's father, Randy Wade, is organizing a rally outside of the Big Ten Headquarters in Chicago, also calling for fall sports to be played this year. That rally is scheduled for Friday.
