Columbus City Schools to Resume Athletics, Extracurricular Activities

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--With health officials in Columbus indicating a decline in the number of new coronavirus cases in the city, Columbus City Schools has announced that all interscholastic athletics and extracurricular activities can resume.

Those activities can resume on Saturday, August 29th, with more guidance expected from the district on a return-to-play plan to follow meetings with coaches, administrators, and athletic directors.

The district says the decision to not postpone the fall sports season was intentional. Superintendent Dr. Talisa Dixon says, "We knew that if the data improved in our district boundaries -- and we are pleased to see that it has -- we could consider a return to play."

The district originally suspended the athletics and activities on August 14th. The district will continue to start the 2020-2021 academic year in an all-online setting on September 8th.
