COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center will receive a grant to study the impact of the coronavirus on first responders.
It amounts to $10-million over the next five years from the National Cancer Institute and the National Institutes of Health, to study the long-term and longitudinal impact of the virus on first responders, as well as healthcare workers and the general population.
Researchers will learn more about the interactions among exposure risks, transmission, immune responses, disease severity, protection and barriers to testing/vaccination, with the goal of improving population health and clinical outcomes in the face of COVID-19.
A new agency will be created at the hospital, to be known as the Center for Serological Testing to Improve Outcomes from Pandemic COVID-19, or STOP-COVID, at Ohio State.
