COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--With more companies entering the final phases and approval processes of their coronavirus vaccine trials, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine says the first batch of vaccines could arrive in the Buckeye State as early as December 15th.
In his regular Tuesday press conference, DeWine said the first batch will likely be from Pfizer, which requested emergency use authorization from the Food and Drug Administration last week. The agency is expected to take a couple weeks to review the data on the vaccine, which Pfizer says is 95% effective in preventing infection.
DeWine says the first people to get it in Ohio will be those who treat coronavirus patients.
He says residents and caretakers in nursing homes will be the next to receive a vaccine.
He adds that vaccines from Moderna will also likely to be distributed in Ohio by the end of December.
