COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--The shooting death of Casey Goodson Jr., by a Franklin County Sheriff's Deputy on Friday, will now be investigated by the FBI.

The US District Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio, David DeVillers, made that determination after receiving a briefing on the matter from Columbus Police Chief Thomas Quinlan.

CPD is also also tasked with investigating the matter, after a request for the Ohio BCI to investigate was denied.

Goodson was shot in a confrontation with Deputy Jason Meade, who was working with the US Marshal's Task Force at the time. According to initial reports, Goodson allegedly drove by officers while waiving a gun, and was confronted.

A gun was recovered from the scene.

Goodson's family says he was shot as he was going home from a dentist appointment, and that he has a concealed carry license.
