COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Columbus Public health has asked the City Council to remove the city's mask mandate, as other agencies ease their mask guidelines.
The requirement to wear a mask in public in the city of Columbus has been in effect since July 3rd, 2020. The CDC updated mask guidelines last week, saying those fully vaccinated from coronavirus do not have to wear a mask, indoors or outdoors, unless they are in a crowded setting.
Many grocery stores are also altering their mask requirements, including Kroger, Wal-Mart, Target, and Giant Eagle. Many stores are also allowing shoppers fully vaccinated to go without wearing a mask.
Health Commissioner Dr. Mysheika Roberts said that 40% of Franklin county's residents are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. She also advised residents who are not vaccinated to get the vaccine as soon as possible and continue to wear a mask, especially when indoors.
