Charges Filed for Four Murders in West Jefferson

WEST JEFFERSON, Ohio (WTVN)--Police in West Jefferson say a man who is already in custody is now charged with the murders of four people in West Jeff, from last month.

Police Chief Chris Floyd says 35-year-old John Paul, aka JP Steckel, is in custody in Franklin County on an unrelated charge.

He's accused of killing four people at a residence on Jackson Street on May 24th. The victims were identified as 45-year-old Andrew Swindall, 45-year-old Shawn Wright, 30-year-old Jamie Lavender, and 38-year-od Billy Daniels.

Floyd says investigators believe robbery was the motive for the shooting, and Steckel was identified through community surveillance cameras.

Steckel has an extensive criminal history and earlier this year was released from federal prison.
