COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--The Ohio State University Department of Athletics is anticipating that Ohio Stadium will return to 100% capacity for football games in 2021.

Athletics Director Gene Smith says the university is planning for that scenario.

The Buckeye football team played in front of only family members, and cardboard cutouts of fans at The 'Shoe in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. That was after players, parents, and fans fought to have the Big Ten Football season restored following the cancellation in August of 2020.

The Big 10 played an abbreviated 8-game season beginning in October of 2020. Ohio State ended up playing for the National Championship, after getting a special exemption to play for the conference title, after only playing 5 games in 2020.

COVID-19 caused three games to be canceled on the Ohio State Football schedule in 2020, including against "that team up north".
