COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Columbus Public Health and Franklin County Public Health have issued a mask advisory for indoor public settings, regardless of a person's vaccination status.

Dr. Mysheika Roberts, CPH Commissioner, says it's in response to the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the area, and coincides with CDC guidance regarding mask-wearing.

Health officials emphasize that it is not a requirement or a mandate. Dr. Roberts says if she had the power, she would make masks a requirement in the city.

The CDC recommends everyone wear a mask indoors, regardless of vaccination status, in areas where there is considered substantial or high spread of COVID-19. Franklin County is considered to be in the "substantial" spread.
