Panic at Easton Town Center Over Rumors of Shots Fired

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Columbus Police spent the weekend addressing reports of shots fired at the Easton Town Center on Saturday.

Sergeant James Fuqua says 9-1-1 calls came in around 9PM Saturday night from the AMC Theatres, after a man entered a theater that was showing "The Suicide Squad" and began shouting obscenities.

The suspect walked to the top of the auditorium, continued to curse, and reached into his backpack. That prompted patrons to panic and flee for the exits. Rumors then spread that there was an active shooter.

Sgt. Fuqua Sunday said there were no shots fired, and Easton Security helped CPD take the man into custody.

The suspect is charged with inducing panic, and will appear in court Tuesday.
