COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Ride-sharing e-scooters have become popular in Columbus since their introduction, but they're causing problems in one downtown neighborhood, prompting their ban.
The city has banned their operation along High Street in the Short North, between Goodale and 5th Avenue.
Visitors who wish to use a scooter will find them inoperable as they approach the area, with the scooter companies setting up a "geo-fence".
The Short North Alliance and the city of Columbus have received numerous complaints about the scooters, especially with riders operating on the sidewalks, and suspects in a series of robberies in the Short North using an e-scooter to perpetrate the crimes.
The ban is in effect until further notice.
