COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Ohio State Football Coach Ryan Day reflecting on his time with former Quarterback Dwayne Haskins, and his impact on the football program, following his death in Florida on Saturday.
Day was the team's co-Offensive Coordinator and Quarterbacks Coach in 2018, when Haskins emerged as an elite quarterback, set numerous school passing records for a single season, and was a finalist for the Heisman Trophy.
Day says Dwayne meant a lot to his family, and a lot to the program.
Day says he had a meeting with the team on Monday, with many current players on the team with Haskins, when he was at Ohio State. Day says the team will also honor Haskins at the Spring Game this weekend.
He added his favorite memory of Dwayne on the field was the game against Maryland, which was back in his home state. Day saying he grew up in that game, and showed real toughness.
When Haskins left Ohio State, he was drafted in the 1st round by Washington, and later signed a deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Haskins died early Saturday in Florida, when he was struck and killed by a passing commercial truck, while walking along an interstate.
