COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--The Columbus Education Association, the union representing thousands of teachers in the Columbus City School district, has filed a 10-day notice of an intent to strike.

The move comes after negotiations on a new contract with the district ended on Wednesday, without a resolution. The notice indicates teachers will walk out at 12:01AM on August 22nd if there's no new contract.

The CEA's current deal expires August 21st. Classes are scheduled to start for the new school year on the 24th.

The district also released an alternate opening plan, in the event of a teacher strike. It would have students returning to remote learning, beginning August 24th, with substitutes and administrators leading the classes.

Sports and extra-curricular activities would be rescheduled, and in some cases canceled, according to the plan.

"Grab and go" meal service will also continue at designated services, with hot and cold breakfast and lunch served.
