"Conceptual Agreement" Ends Columbus City School Teachers Strike

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--The strike by the Columbus Education Association, against the Columbus City School district, is over.

Both sides announced a "conceptual agreement" on a new contract early Thursday morning, after a marathon bargaining session that started Wednesday afternoon.

The teachers have been on the picket lines since Monday, demanding better working conditions, smaller class sizes, and more instructors for elementary art, music, and gym classes.

Details of the new deal have not been disclosed, since the CEA will vote on it this weekend.

Teachers will be back in their classrooms with their students on Monday. Remote learning for students started on Wednesday, and will continue Thursday and Friday.

It was the first strike for CCS teachers since 1975.
