Hundreds of Lawsuits Revived, Over Sexual Abuse by Former OSU Team Doctor

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--A decision Wednesday by a panel of appeals court judges revives hundreds of lawsuits brought by former OSU students against the university, over the alleged sexual abuse carried out by a former athletics team doctor.

Two groups representing over 100 litigants appealed the dismissal of their cases surrounding Dr. Richard Strauss, with a district judge citing the statute of limitations.

The appeals court said the time limit did not start until 2018, when the university publicly acknowledged the abuse.

The university has settled with over 300 survivors of Dr. Strauss, who worked for OSU between 1978 and 1995. Dr. Strauss died in 2005.

The survivors allege the abuse occurred during physical exams, and many of the victims were student-athletes.
