Union Employees of Central Ohio Kroger Stores Approve New Contract

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Members of the United Food and Commercial Workers union who are employees of Kroger stores in central Ohio have approved a new contract.

The new deal was announced late Thursday by both the store and the union, after three days of voting.

The union had rejected two previous proposals from Kroger, and even voted to authorize a strike if a new deal was not reached.

In announcing the agreement, Kroger says its "the largest wage increase ever" for workers. Wages will go up an average of $2.65 an hour, and the starting wage for clerks goes up to $14.25 an hour.

UFCW represents over 12,000 workers across Ohio.
