COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--An American Airlines flight, that departed John Glenn Columbus International Airport Sunday morning, had to make an emergency return, after a bird strike caused one of the plane's engines to catch fire.
Flight 1958, bound for Phoenix, safely returned to the gate, but not before passengers were frightened by the sight of the engine catching fire outside the cabin.
Emergency personnel met the passengers when they departed the plane, but there were no injuries reported.
Pictures circulating on social media show blood on the plane's wing, near where the engine caught fire.
The FAA says aviation bird strikes are on the rise, with more then 2,300 reported this year, compared to about 17,000 reported in all of 2022.
