COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--The Columbus City School Board of Education has approved the placement of a combined levy on the ballot, for voters to decide this November.
It consists of a 4.7-mill permanent improvement levy, and a 3.0-mill operating levy, for a combined 7.7-mill request.
In the request, CCS Board President Jennifer Adair says, "It’s not fair for our kids not to have what our fellow colleagues in the suburbs are giving their children. Each of us as adults in this community look at our children and say, ‘You should have everything you need to be your best selves,’ and that’s what these asks do. It builds not only a foundation for the future of our district but our children’s literal future."
The district last asked for voter approval of a new levy in 2016. If the request in November is approved, it would be on the first collection for the 2024 calendar year.
According to the Franklin County Auditor, it will cost taxpayers an additional $270 for every $100,000 of appraised property value.
