I had the honor Sunday night to emcee the 'Cherish the Moment Charity Social' with Jim and Ellen Tressel.
It was a fundraiser for Kids in Kamp. Ellen is the honorary chair for the organization which raises money to support families touched by childhood cancer. Thirteen of Tressel's former players, all of whom are or have been in the NFL, came to take part in the event.
As a surprise to her husband, Ellen asked that the players speak about the cherished moments they had as players at Ohio State. The evening featured a little of everything...laughs, Buckeye memories, a rousing performance of Carmen Ohio by Cie Grant, (you have to hear this...click here
) and plenty of emotion. Troy Smith even shed tears when talking about his former coach.
Many Buckeye fans are no longer Jim Tressel fans...but I know the majority are. If you're in that group, you will enjoy hearing what the players had to say.
The remarkable aspect of the players speeches is that they had very little to do with football. No matter what your opinion of Jim Tressel is, there's no question that he had a tremendous impact on his players. All of their speeches, in order, are posted below, plus Coach Tressel's comments to reporters after the emotional evening was over.
