Typically my blog is sports related...hence the title, the Sports Blog...but every now and then a story that is boarderline sports catches my eye. Such was the case when I saw Columbus was ranked among the top 21 smartest cities in the world.

610 WTVN's Joel Riley had Columbus Chamber of Commerce CEO Michael Dalby on the air Thursday morning to discuss the findings from the Intellegent Community Forum and broke the news that not only is Columbus in the top 21...it's in the 'Smart Seven'....one of the seven smartest cities on the planet.

"We were the only U.S. city that was named and we're one of only three in North America," Dably told Joel. "It's a great honor for Columbus."

It sure is, but I have to be honest. I'm stunned. I've lived in Columbus since 1983 and absolutely love it here...but I've never thought of this community as elite in terms of intellegence. Especially considering that I live here.

We were discussing it in the newsroom and I'm giving credit to sports. Hey...Urban Meyer moved here and took a 6-7 football team to 12-0 in one season. That's genius.

Anyway, if you're interested in hearing Dalby talk with Joel about Columbus' lofty ranking, I have the interview posted below. There is a touch of sports news in it. Meyer will be speaking at the Columbus Chamber's annual meeting, February 5.
