In less than a week, Ohio State's 2013 recruiting class will be put to bed. The Buckeyes, right now have 23 players committed (see the class here on bucknuts.com) thanks to landing junior college receiver Corey Smith on Tuesday.

With Urban Meyer and his staff in the home stretch, I spoke Wednesday, with Ohio State recruiting guru Bill Kuerlic of Bucknuts to get the latest. The full interview is posted above. Here are some of Bill's comments:

On receiver Corey Smith: "He's originally from Akron and went the junior college route and did quite well. He's got great speed, makes plays and is the kind of guy that Urban Meyer would like to fit into his offense because he does have that capability of being a home run guy which is exactly what Urban Meyer is looking for."

On players still on Ohio State's wish list: "They would love to get (safety) Vonn Bell in the class and they would like to get another wide receiver, a slot type guy that can hit the home run for their offense. Getting Vonn Bell is not going to be easy but they're still hopeful. They're also looking at one more offensive playmaker. They're still recruiting (RB/WR) Dontre Wilson out of Texas, (WR) Ryan Timmons out of Kentucky is still in the mix, (WR) Darren Carrington out of California, (WR) Corn Elder out of Tennessee...those guys are all guys that Ohio State is still in touch with. Between now and signing day we'll see what happens with those four as well as Vonn Bell."

On how secure the Buckeye commitments are..specifically Trey Johnson & Ezekiel Elliott: "For the most part the Ohio State coaches don't have a lot to worry about but they're staying on top of everything. For instance, Trey Johnson (LB from Georgia) made an official visit to Tennessee last weekend. He's since solidified his commitment to Ohio State but the Ohio State staff isn't taking any chances. Most of the defensive staff is going down to Georgia on Friday and they'll visit with him just to firm everything up...but he will sign with Ohio State. Ezekiel Elliott (RB from St. Louis area) is a little bit touchier but in the end I believe he'll be a Buckeye. He did make an official visit this past weekend to his home state school, Missouri and they wowed him.  They told him how well he would fit in their offense and the benefits of staying at home and going to Missouri and it certainly got his attention. He's the only one I think there's much of any concern at all with (Ohio State losing) but I think in the end, he's very likely to be a Buckeye."

On the overall class rank: "It's been a great year for Ohio State and they will end up as a top five class nationally. Right now, they would be number three in my rankings and in just about any ranking you're going to find for them out there has them in the top five. If they don't get anyone else, the beauty in that I guess, is that gives them another spot or two they can use next year and next year's recruiting class, as good as this one has been for Ohio State, has a chance to be even better. In fact, I think it's going to be a spectacular 2014 for Ohio State."
