I've always been a guy who roots for the Big Ten. In bowl season, the more Big Ten teams that win, the better. The same is true for the NCAA basketball tournament. I enjoy seeing the Big Ten prove itself to be one of the best, if not the best basketball conference. This year, the point has been made.
Going into Monday night's title game, the Big Ten is 14-6 in the tournament. The league had four teams in the Sweet 16, two in the Elite Eight, one in the Final Four and now one in the championship game. It's been 13 years since the Big Ten won a title. I should be rooting hard for a Michigan win tonight...but I can't quite pull the trigger.
Ironically, I actually really like this Michigan team. I enjoy their style of basketball and how they play. I like coach John Beilein and I really like Trey Burke. He's a Columbus Northland product, and he's not only a great player but by all accounts, is a wonderful kid. I guess if Michigan wins, I'll feel good for him...but I'd rather feel good for Kevin Ware and Louisville.
"No way...not happening," 610 WTVN basketball analsyt Tony White said when asked by morning show host Joel Riley whether he would pull for the Maize and Blue. "I gave it some thought because you always want the Big Ten to look good...but we don't need Michigan to win the national championship for everyone to take the Big Ten seriously...I don't want Michigan to win...I don't want Michigan to win anything."
If you feel the same way Tony and I do, brace yourself. Louisville is favored but Tony is of the opinion that this is Michigan's game to win.
"I think Michigan is the more talented team and I think Michigan is the better team," Tony said. "Louisville is a very talented team too but they don't have the fire power that this Michigan team has...I think Louisville has a chance to win this game but I think Michigan should be the favorite."
