What a great first week of Bucksline! We had a tremendous opening week crowd at the Buffalo Wild Wings on Bethel Road. It felt like a family reunion as we renewed acquaintances with so many faithful Buckeye fans who have been Bucksline regulars for years.
I was joined by Earle Bruce, Stan Jackson and Dave Maetzold. Here were some of the headlines.
Earle Bruce, on the kickoff of the 124th season of Buckeye football:
"I think everyone is anxious. This is football season. It's the greatest time of the year for everyone who is a Buckeye so look out. We have high expectations and I think we'll fulfill most of them. I've been to practice quite a bit. I think it's a really talented (team.) When you look at the offense, I think the offensive line is unbelievable."
Stan Jackson, on being anxious to see Braxton Miller:
"This is his second year with this coach and in this offensive system. I want to see how much he has grown. There's a lot of hype around him, a lot of Heisman talk and all of that good stuff. Well let's see how much he's progressed in the pass game."
Earle Bruce on Braxton Miller's improvement:
"Do you know why I (was excited) to go to practice? I went to see Braxton pass the ball and he is much, much improved...I saw him drill that ball about 25 yards down the field, right in the hands of the receiver. He also seems to have a nice touch on the long ball which he didn't have last year."
Stan Jackson hopes Miller's improved passing does not necessarily limit his running:
"I want to see grow in the pass game but we've never had a quarterback like this before. We've had guys who have run the ball well...but this guy will make you miss in a phone booth. He's strong, he's big, his balance is phenominal, his explosion and his vision (are good)...this is what he does. I'd hate to see Braxton pull back from what he does best."
Dave Maetzold said he's most interested to see freshmen Dontre Wilson:
"Urban Meyer was very clear in his first meeting with the media after the first couple of practices that this guy was going to play and this guy has got jets...This guy ran a 20.9 in the 200 meters in Texas. He's pretty fast. He's been given a lot of confidence and he's been spending time in both the running backs room and the receivers room...You're going to see them do everything they can do to try to get the football in that young man's hands. I can't wait to see him run."
