Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said Monday that starting quarterback Braxton Miller is probable for Saturday's game against Florida A&M but that may not mean back-up quarterback Kenny Guiton fades into the sunset.
"If he's one of the best 11 (offensive players) then you have an obligation to get on the field a little bit," Meyer said. "I haven't said he's one of the best 11 yet but that's something we are in the process of, as coaches, (identifying.)"
With Miller, last season's Big 10 MVP, suffering a sprained MCL in his left knee vs. San Diego State September 7, Guiton led the Buckeyes to a 42-7 win. He followed it up by throwing four touchdown passes and piling up 368 yards of total offense Saturday at Cal.
"Kenny Guiton has earned some time. He did a nice job," Meyer said. The coach in fact did not rule out finding a way to get both Miller and Guiton on the field at the same time. "I have not really done that but we're in conversation about that right now."
Guiton's performance at California earned him national offensive player of the week honors from the Walter Camp Foundation and also the Big Ten offensive player of the week.
"That means a lot," Guiton said of the honors. "I never saw that coming. I was just hoping to go out there and win a game for the team...to get those kind of accolades is a blessing."
As well as Guiton has played, the Buckeye co-captain said he understands his role. If Miller's return means more bench time for the fifth year senior, sobeit.
"I'm happy with whatever (the coaches) decide to do," Guiton said. "I'm all with the team. I've been like that for four-and-a-half years why change now? I'm here for whatever is best for the team and when I'm called, I'll be ready."
