Ohio AG Yost Calls for End to Statute of Limitations for Rape

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost is calling for the lifting of the statute of limitations for rape in the Buckeye State.

Yost was joined Monday in the announcement by five previous attorneys general. A letter calling for it was released Monday, and signed by Betty Montgomery, Nancy Rogers, Richard Cordray, Lee Fisher, and Jim Petro.

Yost compared the situation to the statute of limitations for murder, which there is none in Ohio. Yost says rape can be just as traumatic because the victim has to live on with the memory of the event.

Currently, the statute of limitations for rape in Ohio is 25 years. Yost argues that rapists should not be able to run out the clock on their cases.

Governor Mike DeWine, who was also Ohio Attorney General, has also come out in support of the move.
