COLUMBUS, Ohio (WTVN)--Dozens of residents on Columbus's northeast side had to be helped from their homes via boat Tuesday morning, after torrential rains overnight left their neighborhood completely flooded.

Columbus Fire crews carried out the operation along Stormcroft Avenue, near Westerville Road, with about 40 residents getting assistance via boat.

ABC-6 is reporting that some residents decided not to leave their homes, and the rescue was voluntary.

A COTA bus is providing temporary shelter for those affected, and the Red Cross is also assisting those in need.

Heavy rain Monday night into Tuesday flooded numerous roads across central Ohio, with a Flash Flood Watch continuing through Tuesday evening.
